Project 1: Urban Oasis Explosion Box May 13, 2010

Hi everyone!  Well more than likely….hello no one 🙂  I am sure it will be several months before anyone stumbles upon this blog except, of course, the friends I call or text and remind them over and over to come check out whatever cool thing I made that day.  Anyway….. the idea behind this blog is that I have challenged myself to create 365 Stampin’ UP! projects in one year.  When I first came up with the idea I thought I was being crazy, and that this would be a very hard task, but as I searched around the web I saw many people posting several projects a week, so maybe this isn’t going to be as tough as originally thought.  That is, not until you factor in my personality 🙂  I am a chronic PROCRASTINATOR!!  I have no idea how I survived Graduate School…..I just can’t seem to even start a project until it is so late in the game that there truly isn’t enough time to complete a polished looking result, yet here I am telling the world I am going to complete 365 projects in 1 year.  This does not mean that I am going to make a project and actually post it everyday.  Things will come up, illness, family, vacations, or days where I just don’t feel like it.  On other days I will make or post multiple items….All in the intent that there will be 365 projects here by the end of the year.  Hopefully I don’t follow my normal pattern where I would end up posting about 200 projects all on the last day.  LOL!!  So I need you guys to keep me on track and push me to finish this!!

Along the way you will learn a lot about me.  I like to talk 🙂 so I’m sure you will hear whatever gripe or praise I happen to have  on my mind on any given day.  Hopefully I learn about other people to…..  Share with me, I need more human contact….I sit at home all day with my two AWESOME bullmastiffs, and even though the looks on their adorable faces make it look as though they understand me, and they always seem to give me big slobbery kisses just when I need them the most 🙂 It isn’t the same as really talking with others.

I am a Stampin’ UP! Demonstrator, and being honest, I hope this site helps me meet new customers (and friends).  I live in Milwaukee, WI, and even though I have been here for a few years I know almost NO ONE besides a few people I met at Graduate School who are too busy to lift their heads from their books, and the few friends I have met through my husband.  So basically I am a lonely craft loving girl reaching out to find others like me.  Their are links along the sides of this blog to shop my Stampin UP! site so no matter where in the country you are I can be your “demonstrator.” I am a “house wife,” but this isn’t exactly by choice…..It almost seems as though continuing my education has actually made it harder to find a job.  I started with Stampin UP! almost 2 years ago.  This was mainly just a hobby for me, and a way to get discounts to feed my crafting addiction, but now I am turning what I LOVE into my full time career!!

So on with the show……  My first project is the cute “Explosion Box Scrapbook” I have been working on the past couple of days.  See….I am already behind and this is just the first project..hahaha.  I really wanted this to be “something.”  I usually start with someone else’s idea and work from there, or when I am learning a new technique I will completely copy their project….whenever possible I will give the appropriate person credit for their hard work.  For this first project I am actually very proud to say I designed this one myself…..  Part of the hope with this 365 project challenge is that by the end of this one year project I will be better at envisioning and designing my own projects.

Without further delay……PROJECT 1: Urban Oasis Explosion box

A great tutorial on how to create this Ornament Punch Flower by Becky Jensen can be found at:  www.stampthat.com/blog/ornament-punch-rose-tutorial

Before assembling the flower I Sponged the edges of the individual petals with Going Gray Ink.  Then after assembling the flower I sprayed with Silver Foil Smooch Spritz, followed by the Vanilla Shimmer Smooch Spritz.  Sometimes I wish I had not used the silver smooch as it left big splatter marks……but I LOVE the effect of the vanilla shimmer!!!  The Vanilla Shimmer Smooch Spritz is very subtle and may not even show up well in the photo, it just gives it that “sparkle.”

Then I punched 3 more ornaments from the Kiwi Kiss textured paper (retired) scraps….I folded them in half, and then I ran those through my crimper, unfolded them and then sponged the edges and ridges with Old Olive Ink.  I used Glue (not sticky strip as in tutorial) to assemble my flower.

Below are various pictures of the box open…you could easily substitute the retired items used with new ones.

A tutorial for cutting and assembling the Explosion Box can be found at www.craftbits.com/project/altered-scrapbooking-scrapbook-in-a-box.  Sorry I do not know who made the tutorial….no name to be found in it, but it was very easy to follow.

So there….I’ve done it 1 project down and 364 to go…..hopefully I can do the other ones quicker or I will be in trouble.

Remember you can buy all the Stampin UP! projects featured here at my Stampin UP! site.  Your purchases would definitely help fund this wild adventure I started (and my husband would greatly appreciate not going bankrupt over my silly quest.)  Shop here.

Til Next Time….

Wow….my first non-coerced reader!! I am so excited, I thought it would be months before anyone found me. This encourages me to keep at that goal!! I am also going to check out your blog. As for that paper…. I have been hoarding it ever since I got it. I should have order 10 packs, then maybe I wouldn’t have held on to it like it were precious jewels. LOL!! I am glad I am not the only one who hoards the beautiful papers. Why is it so hard to just open the pack, cut into it and use it?
