Projects 28-30: Stationary Birthday Gift June 17, 2010

The same day I actually completed my first post to this blog (date on post says May 13, but it wasn’t actually posted until May 16) and was wondering how many months it would take for someone to stumble across my blog (except my friends whom I told over and over again they had to check it out) Rebecca found me, and let me know that she would be checking out my blog regularly, so I had better keep my word of completing 365 SU projects in 365 days. 🙂  Well her birthday was a little over a week ago, and I had wanted to thank her for being my first non- coerced follower.  I also knew she was a little down because her fiance had recently been deployed overseas, and would not be able to celebrate her birthday with her, so I played a little trick on her….I know…it’s not nice to mess with people who are already down, but it was a NICE trick 🙂

I asked her for her address so I could send her a birthday card.  Now wouldn’t it have been pretty cheesy of me to then send her just a birthday card???  What kind of surprise would that have been? Instead I made her a stationary set so she could use it to keep in touch with her friends and family.

And did I mention she also has a stamping blog…..check it out 20 Something Stamper.  She has the cutest coffee card on there that she just posted today, and I am going to just have to case it 🙂 I love the retro feel of it!!!  We are now online stamping buddies encouraging each other to keep creating.  That’s what is so great about the internet….If there aren’t many people in your immediate area that share your interests you have the internet, that can make people far away seem just like a neighborhood friend.

Projects 25-27: Catalog Sneak Peak June 14, 2010

I have a treat for you today!!!  I have created 3 cards for you and they are ALL taken from the pages of the brand new 2010-2011 Stampin’ Up! Idea Book and Catalog set to release on July 1, 2010.  If you have not yet ordered your catalog be sure to send me an email at betty.ray020@gmail.com.  I am charging $9 for the catalog and this includes PRIORITY mailing, so really you are only paying $3-4 for you catalog (that’s less than I pay for them, but I do this in the hope that you will also choose me as your demonstrator for your purchases from the catalog.)  I will be mailing these out the same day I receive my stock of them (expected to be here 1 1/2 to 2 weeks from now). So order early as I did not order that many catalogs….remember….I’m the broke crafter 🙂  After my initial stock is gone you can still order catalogs, but at the normal SU price of $9.95 plus shipping.

I am also very happy to announce that my blog has been live for 1 month, and as of today I have passed 2,000 views…I’ll take that as a sign that I am doing something right 🙂  Now if I can just find some people in the area to hold workshops so I can sell some stuff the world would be a happy place.  Please contact me if you would like to hold a workshop or class in your home, and you live within a 1-2 hour drive of Milwaukee.  I can teach technique classes for a per person fee, which includes everyone completing the project and taking it home with them, or if you live less than 1 hour from Milwaukee we can do the traditional workshop where you gather a group of friends to make a couple simple cards, and browse the catalog (no per person fee, and the hostess receives FREE stuff based on the amount of sales at the party).  I also hold classes where you get to complete 12 cards or several scrapbook pages, and just pay a fee (this way people are not expected to browse the catalogs and buy stuff, they just get to hang out with friends, and make some really cool stuff.)  Just email me if any of these ideas sound interesting to you!!  betty.ray020@gmail.com (thats zero-two-zero) or just post a comment below with your email and I will contact you.

Project 22 of 365: Black and White with a POP of Color June 11, 2010

So I am sitting here giddy like a school girl because all my SU 2010-2011 Sneak Peak items are arriving tomorrow.  I already know that I will be sitting by the front window watching for the UPS truck to arrive all morning….Even though I know the UPS guy doesn’t get here until 12:30-2:30.

I don’t know which I am more excited about….all the great new stuff I ordered or that I will finally get to see the new catalog.  Each demo gets a complimentary copy of the new catalog with their June order!!!  But if any of you out there want to purchase your very own catalog contact me at betty.ray020@gmail.com and I will put you on my pre-order list for when the rest of the catalogs arrive nearer the end of June.

I have been hearing all kinds of good stuff about the new catalog from those who have already received theirs.  By the way it sounds I should probably be concerned about ending up bankrupt from all the NEW stuff that I will just “HAVE” to have.

Today’s project is so pretty.  I have seen interior decorating shows where they decorated rooms almost entirely in black and white, but then just added a splash of color here and there to finish off the look.  This always ends up looking so elegant!  So that is my inspiration for this card.

Project 20 of 365: Rich Razzleberry Any Occasion Cards June 8, 2010

All I can think of is how cold and gloomy it is for a June Day.  Wisconsin is known for crazy weather changes but really????  Two days ago I got a SUPER red sunburn just from walking around and looking at cars, now today I have on a sweater, and thick socks, and I’m still a bit chilly.

I don’t know about you but I find it so hard to be productive when its gloomy and rainy out all day.  All I want to do when it is like this is curl up with a cozy blanket on the couch with a mocha and watch cheesy old chic flicks, and drift in and out of lovely naps.

Well, lets blame the weather for the lazy cards I am showing you today.  They are really cute but so simple that each one of them can be completed in less than 10 minutes, and with minimal supplies!!  I actually saw VERY VERY similar cards to these on a SU Demonstrator only website, and I do apologize that I did not note who made these to give them their proper credit.  The only real change I made was to make cards with each of the flower stamps in the Fifth Avenue Floral Set, instead of just 2, and I did not put any sentiments on them, as this way I can use them for sweet note cards, or I can quick grab a sentiment stamp and add it when I realize I need a card for someone.  I tend to make a lot of cards without sentiments on the outside or inside.  I do this so that whenever I do need a card I can simply add it without having to make a new card.  On the inside I often times like to have them blank so that I can write the person a longer, more personal, note.

See how simple that is, mass produce them and have a bunch around for whenever you need a card!!

That is all for now.  I’m working on another card tonight, but probably won’t be done in time to post it today.

Project 19 of 365: CosmoBella Hits the Town June 5, 2010

I have the cutest card today…well at least I think so 🙂  I just wish I would have come up with it last week, because with the Cosmo and all the Pink this would have been perfect for “Sex and the City 2” movie night!

I made this card as part of Splitcoast Stampers Technique Lover’s Challenge #275.  Each Monday they post a technique to try…This week the technique was to create a Tent Card.  This is a  card that stands on its own, has a cut out in the center and a dangling image.  I knew as soon as I saw it that I wanted to use this Stamping Bella stamp that my great friend, Kelly, gave me a couple years ago.  Of course now that I found the perfect project to use it on it was MIA.  After much searching I found the Cosmo wielding Bella, and designed the rest of the card around her.  So, no, the stamp is not from Stampin’ Up! but all the papers and brads are 🙂

While this front view is cute it is even better when you view it from the side and see how the card is actually open and the image is really “dancing” there in the center.  I tried to make it look like Cosmo Bella was in a trendy downtown bar with the vintage-looking wallpaper design in the background.  Sure its a bit pink, so this bar probably wouldn’t attract too many men, but if you’re hanging with the girls, having a Cosmo, are your really looking for guys???

Then for some extra 3D effects I added a couple of flowers.  One made with the XL Fancy Flower Punch, the other one made from the Flower on the Tropical Island Bigz Die.  These flowers are so fun and addicting to make.  This is why I prefer to make my own embellishments rather than buy them.  I don’t know what embellishment I would have bought that would have worked the same as the flowers…

Here is a better view from the side so you can get a real feel for why this card is so cool…

19 of 365: Cosmo Bella

The idea behind the tent card is that it is a 3D card that also folds flat so it can be mailed in a regular envelope.  Obviously mine would not fold flat (due to the roses), but a girl’s gotta have fun and I really wanted to give this card some SUPER girl power 🙂

Everyone is sworn to secrecy…..Do not tell my husband that this card ended up costing me $40!  Don’t worry the card itself did not cost $40 to make.  The issue was that I did not have the jump rings to dangle Bella from, and I did not want to substitute thread (it wouldn’t have the same affect).  I knew it was dangerous to take a “quick” trip to JoAnn’s to get the $2 package of jump rings, but I risked it and FAILED.  Try as I might I just could not go in, buy the jump rings I needed, and walk out 😦  But hey, I got some new crafting toys that I will share on my blog 🙂

Project 15 of 365: Curtain Call Color Challenge Act 32 and FTL92: Thinking of You May 31, 2010

Wow…..I have had quite the productive day, which is extra surprising since my husband and I went to a cookout yesterday and then watched movies and played video games with friends until after 1am… I think I was able to drag my butt out of bed about noon, and then continued to lay around the house like a lazy bones until probably 2pm.  Yet, I still completed 3 projects today, went to another cookout/birthday party, and when I finish this post I think I’m going to work on another project since I am on a roll 🙂

As I have been writing up these posts today I’ve had the TV on in the background and there’s a show on the History Channel (I think) called “American Pickers.”  It’s mostly been on because the remote is in my crafting room, and I am in the adjacent office nook and I’m being too lazy to get up and go change it….but anyway….half the time I find those guys pretty annoying, and half the time I’m dazzled by the stuff they find.  Well….thanks to them I now think vintage gas station signs, and gas pumps are sooooo Cool!  Thank Goodness I’m broke otherwise I would be running off to every flee market I could find to get gas station memorabilia lol!  The other super cool antique that I just wish I could afford to get my hands on are antique slot machines that have not been modified.  I don’t even know what it is about them that I think is so cool, but every time I see one older than about the 1960s I just wish it were mine, if its one of those from the 1890-1940s I’m just in awww.  Maybe this explains why I really wanted to get married in Las Vegas.  It’s actually pretty funny because I am not really a gambling person, had never been to Las Vegas, yet it was all my idea to get married in Vegas.  Yeah, I know, sometimes I just don’t make sense….but I kinda like that about myself.

Anyway…. this project is a combination of  Curtain Call Color Challenge Act 32 and FTL92 which is a layout challenge from the Clean and Simple Stamping Blog.  In my version I decided I wanted to make a small note card…..so the measurements on this one are a small 4×4.  Plus I just had to find a way to incorporate the “Kind & Caring Thoughts” stamp set I had borrowed from a friend.  Sure, it would have made more sense to make use of the beautiful flowers in the borrowed stamp set, but, the images just weren’t working with my “Clean and Simple” design….But not to worry, I did get permission to borrow this set for awhile, so I have plenty of time to make some great stuff with it.  My main intention in borrowing the set was to do many “Black Magic” projects with the flowers so be sure to check back often to see what I come up with.
