Project 40 of 365: Bloomin’ Beautiful in Classic Stripes June 29, 2010

So here we are.  Already at the end of my 3 card tribute to the soon retiring Bloomin Beautiful stamp set 😦  This is one of those sets that I was truly surprised about when they announced it was retiring.  I almost wish I would have posted these in the reverse order and ended with the card I liked the best instead of starting with the one I liked best….but this is a cute card too, and best of all it is super simple.  Who wouldn’t smile if they received such a brightly colored card.

This card was inspired by a card from the demo only site by Robin Merriman.

Project 38 of 365: Bloomin’ Beautiful Velvet

Hi All!

Today I decided to do a tribute to a stamp set that I am very sad to be seeing retire tomorrow 😦  I just love the flower stamp from the Bloomin’ Beautiful set, and just as I am starting to use it more and more it has to go and retire on me.  So here is my tribute….3 cards to honor “Bloomin’ Beautiful.”

This first card is pretty darn cool.  I liked it even more when I accidently tore the old olive paper while in the process of distressing it.  I decided to continue with that piece by just haphazardly pasting it back together, because what says distressed better than torn and tattered??? Doesn’t that wrinkled and inked background look fabulous?

This photo doesn’t show it very well, but the red part of the flower is heavily covered with Crystal Effects.  This glassy dimensional element is what takes this card from good to great!  Before I forget to mention it…this card was inspired by a card made by Victoria Harrell.  She posted a similar card on the demonstrator only site, and this is my take on her card, with several alterations.

Supplies:

Paper:

  • Basic Black
  • Whisper White
  • Old Olive

Ink:

  • Kiwi Kiss
  • Old Olive
  • Basic Black

  • Cherry Cobbler

Well that’s my start to my Bloomin’ Beautiful Tribute. More to come shortly…

Projects 28-30: Stationary Birthday Gift June 17, 2010

The same day I actually completed my first post to this blog (date on post says May 13, but it wasn’t actually posted until May 16) and was wondering how many months it would take for someone to stumble across my blog (except my friends whom I told over and over again they had to check it out) Rebecca found me, and let me know that she would be checking out my blog regularly, so I had better keep my word of completing 365 SU projects in 365 days. 🙂  Well her birthday was a little over a week ago, and I had wanted to thank her for being my first non- coerced follower.  I also knew she was a little down because her fiance had recently been deployed overseas, and would not be able to celebrate her birthday with her, so I played a little trick on her….I know…it’s not nice to mess with people who are already down, but it was a NICE trick 🙂

I asked her for her address so I could send her a birthday card.  Now wouldn’t it have been pretty cheesy of me to then send her just a birthday card???  What kind of surprise would that have been? Instead I made her a stationary set so she could use it to keep in touch with her friends and family.

And did I mention she also has a stamping blog…..check it out 20 Something Stamper.  She has the cutest coffee card on there that she just posted today, and I am going to just have to case it 🙂 I love the retro feel of it!!!  We are now online stamping buddies encouraging each other to keep creating.  That’s what is so great about the internet….If there aren’t many people in your immediate area that share your interests you have the internet, that can make people far away seem just like a neighborhood friend.

Cool News!!!  In the new catalog both the small tag punch and the large tag punch are returning!!!  Unfortunately I do not know what the name of the tag stamp set is that I used.  It was retired long ago, and I bought the set second hand, and it did not have the label on it (but the individual stamps do have the SU copyright on them).

Paper:

  • Whisper White
  • Not Quite Nave
  • Pink Pirouette

Ink:

  • Versamark (pad and marker)
  • Not Quite Navy

Stamps:

  • Fifth Avenue Floral
  • an unknown retired set compatible with the tag punch

Accessories:

  • White Emboss Powder
  • Heat Gun
  • Sizzix Big Shot
  • Daisies Die
  • Rhinestones (non SU)
  • Navy Ribbon
  • Snail Adhesive
  • Tombow Glue

I’ll be back with more posts yet today to get caught up 🙂

Project 21 of 365: Blue Bride June 9, 2010

Isn’t it funny when you sit down and you have a project in mind, and you work, work, and work on it….Then in the end your project is nothing like the one you started making?  Well, that is exactly what happened here.

While I like this card, I was NOT planning on making a wedding card, and I was NOT planning on running the Frilly Lacey border all the way up the card.  So this is truly one of those projects that revealed itself as it went along…Luckily I am happy with the outcome…but it does seem like something is missing, so if anyone has any suggestions on what this card needs for that “finishing touch” please let me know by leaving a comment below.

This card started from the Mojo Monday 142 challenge, and then I also got the colors from the Curtain Call Color Challenge Act 33.  I love combining these two challenges!  They both come out on Monday and it is SOOOOOO much easier to jump in and get a project finished when you already know what colors AND layout you are using.

It is probably a good thing this became a wedding card, as it seems like every week we are getting another wedding invitation, so I will need plenty of wedding cards this year.  Hmmmm, maybe my husband and I should get around to having that Wedding Reception we told everyone we would have when we broke the news that we decided to have a small wedding in Vegas instead of a big wedding at home…
