Projects 67 and 68 of 365: Memories of Grandma August 4, 2010

Well, it seems as though life is slowly but surely getting back to normal.  It’s kind of odd in a way…but when Monday came around I decided its a new week, and its time to get everything back on track.  First of all….the house needed a major cleaning…I can’t believe how messy things can get in just a couple of weeks.  Its not so much that we weren’t picking up after ourselves, as just not doing the cleaning, cleaning stuff, because I was constantly running back and forth to where by grandmother was (over 2 hours away in Waupaca, WI), plus spending what seemed like hours a day on the phone checking up on grandma or answering questions for others looking for updates.

Grandmother passed away July 24th, and the funeral was last Thursday.  While I miss her terribly, I have to admit that when I got the call I breathed a sigh of relief.  She was in so much pain…to an extent that I would not wish on anyone.  It was so hard to see her like that, knowing there was no chance she would be getting any better.  The only question I will always wonder is why the he** her doctor would have advised her to have breast cancer surgery at the age of 86, knowing that she had a BAD heart. She probably had less than a 50/50 chance of waking up from the surgery much less recovering from it.  At that time she was in NO pain from the cancer, and while I wouldn’t call her “healthy” (she was 86 after all) she was mostly comfortable.  It just seems to me that this whole thing would have been so much less painful for her if they would NOT have done the surgery, fact-be-told, I also think she would have lived longer and been more comfortable, and possibly have even spent the rest of her days at home where she wanted to be (or at least several months at home in much less pain).

I have many projects to post for everyone….including an entire throw I crocheted mostly in the time spent visiting grandmother, a picture board completed for the funeral, another wedding card from a wedding we attended on Saturday, as well as the two digital scrapbook pages I am posting today.

In honor of grandmother I did complete a couple scrapbook pages using My Digital Studio (a digital scrapbook and card making software by Stampin Up!)  All of the pictures used in these two pages are very recent pictures of grandmother.  They were taken at my cousin’s wedding this past March.  She looked so nice that day, and that special sparkle was in her eyes just like I always remembered.  The last time I visited grandmother she was barely opening her eyes, but just for a second or two she seemed to open them wide and look right at me, and that magical sparkle was still there.  That sparkle let me know SHE was still in that body even though everything was fading.  When I drove home that last time that’s all I could see, and that sparkle is how I choose to remember those last days.

Project 55 of 365: Friends Never Fade in Pear Pizzazz July 12, 2010

I saved my favorite one for last tonight.  The background paper in this one truly reminds me of retro kitchen wallpaper 🙂

Believe it or not….I actually decorated the inside of this card.  I usually don’t put anything on the inside of the card until I go to use it, but I could tell by the little sliver the original creator left showing that she had replicated the main image in the lower corner of the inside as well, so I just had to do it too….after all I am being a total “follower” today since all of today’s cards are cased (with only minor changes).

Project 54 of 365: Friends Never Fade in Baja Breeze

Another fabulous item in the new catalog is the Greenhouse Gala Designer Series Paper.  It’s just so pretty and coordinates so well with the Friends Never Fade set.  I am an admitted DSP hoarder, but I think this blog has helped me stop that nasty habit.  My problem was that I was always buying all the pretty papers, but then never using them.  I was always saving them for some special occasion that never seemed to come along..  LOL!  I have no idea why I do that.  So shortly after I started this blog, and really took a good look at the piles of beautiful paper I already owned I made a commitment to myself….either use it or if its really so pretty that it needs special attention frame it and hang it on the wall.  Since my walls are not covered with framed patterned paper LOL, I think have finally broken my pretty paper hoarding habit.

Project 52 of 365: Friends Never Fade 3×3 Card

Don’t you just love this new stamp set (Friends Never Fade)?  I think that’s why I cased all these cards….This is one of the sets that’s really hot right now, so everyone is using it…meaning if you purchase it (thru me or anyone else) you will have no problems finding more ideas and examples than you know what to do with.

This next card is just a 3×3 little thank you note, or you could adjust it and make it into a gift tag by simply changing the greeting.  This card is cased from another card from the demonstrator-only website by Terri Walker.

Projects 46-50 of 365: Creating with Artistic Etchings July 9, 2010

I’m Back!!! 🙂

First off, all I can say is my grandmother is one tough cookie.  She is somehow still ticking, but it won’t be long….now it will be a blessing when she goes, as even with all the pain medication you can still see that she is in absolute agony.  I now pray each day that “God” will help her find the peace she needs.  Thank you to everyone for the emails, texts, and phone calls of support.  It has meant so much to me.  It has been hard to deal with the double sorrow of the situation…sadness that she will soon be gone, and very sorry for the pain that she is somehow enduring.  The hardest part is seeing her in such pain and wishing, with all my heart, there was something I could do to take the pain away.

So please forgive me but this post will be a quick one.  I will be simply posting the projects, photos, and supplies (no fun chit chat today…)

Project 34 of 365: Baja Breeze Wedding June 22, 2010

So it has been a few days since my last post….It has been pretty busy around here.  Went to a wedding on Saturday, went to Polish Fest on Sunday (yep, my husband is half Polish and half Italian), and survived some more crazy weather yesterday.  Suffice it to say I was not going to be in the third level of our house while we were under a Tornado WARNING 🙂  Luckily, living so close to Lake Michigan (just a few blocks away), once all the crazy stuff hit the cooler air of the Lake everything simmered down, and passed over us.  Unfortunately, we can not say the same for areas just West of us that were hit by the same storm.

I have NEVER been good about being alone in serious weather.  Some people think its a thrill, but not me, I am the first one into the basement every time. My husband laughs at me, but if he thinks I am bad now he should have seen me as a little kid where I would actually be crying out of fear that a tornado was going to get me.  I used to even have reoccurring nightmares about running from tornadoes and having nowhere to go.  At least now I am fine with thunder and lightening, and even wind, but I still don’t do well when they start reporting serious wind damage, or there are reports of tornadoes anywhere near or heading in our direction.

I have found a system that helps me NOT panic, and keeps me calm enough to handle the storms without giving it away to others that I am actually terrified.  I have an actual action plan of what to do.  I think the reason why it works so great is that it keeps me busy organizing, and doesn’t leave time for panic.  It is all planned out, I know exactly what to do.  The best part is that EVERY time I have put my action plan into action (because of actual tornado warnings or sirens) the storms always deteriorate or quickly pass without any of the forecasted dangers.

On to happier things…

The project I am posting today is the card that I made for the wedding we attended this past Saturday.  I chose the colors to match the colors they used on their invitations.  On this card I did a few “extra” things that I do not do often; I simply decorated a coordinating envelope, as well as putting a little extra effort into decorating the inside of the card.

Projects 25-27: Catalog Sneak Peak June 14, 2010

I have a treat for you today!!!  I have created 3 cards for you and they are ALL taken from the pages of the brand new 2010-2011 Stampin’ Up! Idea Book and Catalog set to release on July 1, 2010.  If you have not yet ordered your catalog be sure to send me an email at betty.ray020@gmail.com.  I am charging $9 for the catalog and this includes PRIORITY mailing, so really you are only paying $3-4 for you catalog (that’s less than I pay for them, but I do this in the hope that you will also choose me as your demonstrator for your purchases from the catalog.)  I will be mailing these out the same day I receive my stock of them (expected to be here 1 1/2 to 2 weeks from now). So order early as I did not order that many catalogs….remember….I’m the broke crafter 🙂  After my initial stock is gone you can still order catalogs, but at the normal SU price of $9.95 plus shipping.

I am also very happy to announce that my blog has been live for 1 month, and as of today I have passed 2,000 views…I’ll take that as a sign that I am doing something right 🙂  Now if I can just find some people in the area to hold workshops so I can sell some stuff the world would be a happy place.  Please contact me if you would like to hold a workshop or class in your home, and you live within a 1-2 hour drive of Milwaukee.  I can teach technique classes for a per person fee, which includes everyone completing the project and taking it home with them, or if you live less than 1 hour from Milwaukee we can do the traditional workshop where you gather a group of friends to make a couple simple cards, and browse the catalog (no per person fee, and the hostess receives FREE stuff based on the amount of sales at the party).  I also hold classes where you get to complete 12 cards or several scrapbook pages, and just pay a fee (this way people are not expected to browse the catalogs and buy stuff, they just get to hang out with friends, and make some really cool stuff.)  Just email me if any of these ideas sound interesting to you!!  betty.ray020@gmail.com (thats zero-two-zero) or just post a comment below with your email and I will contact you.
