77 of 365: Bridal Shower Card August 21, 2010

Today I went to a bridal shower for the wife of a co-worker/close friend of my husband.  Yep, I said bridal shower for the wife…..they have already been married for a year, as they eloped just before her husband went to Iraq with the Army, and now that he is home they are going back and doing all the wedding stuff.

Anyway….  I DO NOT like this card I made for her.  Yet, I am still posting it because it took me a long time to make it and the creative vision behind it was good.  Once again, I was basing the card off the wedding invitation.  This invitations has a bunch of small flowers all over it that are Orange, Red, Pink, and Purple.  So I decided to take the bouquet from the Blissful Bride set, use a marker to get just the flowers and not the stems, and then made a mask so I could overlap the flowers without making a total mess of it. (Like I said the design inspiration behind it was quite good, but….) I then colored in all the tiny flowers and covered them with Glassy Glaze thick embossing powder.  That part of the project turned out pretty close to how I envisioned (which is why I am still posting it), but it was all down hill from there 😦  Maybe if I would have made this card a few days a go, instead of early this morning, I would have had more time to better design the rest of the card.  Well, I have a week until the wedding ceremony to do better on the next card 🙂

Project 55 of 365: Friends Never Fade in Pear Pizzazz July 12, 2010

I saved my favorite one for last tonight.  The background paper in this one truly reminds me of retro kitchen wallpaper 🙂

Believe it or not….I actually decorated the inside of this card.  I usually don’t put anything on the inside of the card until I go to use it, but I could tell by the little sliver the original creator left showing that she had replicated the main image in the lower corner of the inside as well, so I just had to do it too….after all I am being a total “follower” today since all of today’s cards are cased (with only minor changes).

Project 41 of 365: All a Flutter Birthday June 29, 2010

Have any of you guys ever seen stamp set and thought  “I just have  to have that,” then ordered it right away, waited impatiently for many days for it to arrive, and then you finally get it and  you leave it sit for a month (or often times much longer) without ever using it? This is something I have done far more times than I would like to admit.  The main stamp used in this card is a perfect example of this.

As soon as I saw the All a Flutter a la carte stamp in the back of the Summer Mini Catalog I just HAD to have it.  I had so many ideas in my head about how I was going to use it.  The whole 1 1/2 weeks I spent waiting for it to arrive seemed like torture.  Well I got that stamp over a month ago, and have I posted a single project using it?  Nope….today is the first time I touched that stamp, even though it seemed so hard to wait for it to arrive.  lol!

Luckily, I’m really loving this first card I finally made with it.  In case you are wondering….the butterflies are stamped in versamark onto cardstock vellum, heat embossed with black embossing powder, and then colored with markers, and popped up with dimensionals.  It’s just such a happy card 🙂  I am  so glad I finally put this stamp to use, and I hope to use it much more often in the future.

Project 40 of 365: Bloomin’ Beautiful in Classic Stripes

So here we are.  Already at the end of my 3 card tribute to the soon retiring Bloomin Beautiful stamp set 😦  This is one of those sets that I was truly surprised about when they announced it was retiring.  I almost wish I would have posted these in the reverse order and ended with the card I liked the best instead of starting with the one I liked best….but this is a cute card too, and best of all it is super simple.  Who wouldn’t smile if they received such a brightly colored card.

This card was inspired by a card from the demo only site by Robin Merriman.

Project 38 of 365: Bloomin’ Beautiful Velvet

Hi All!

Today I decided to do a tribute to a stamp set that I am very sad to be seeing retire tomorrow 😦  I just love the flower stamp from the Bloomin’ Beautiful set, and just as I am starting to use it more and more it has to go and retire on me.  So here is my tribute….3 cards to honor “Bloomin’ Beautiful.”

This first card is pretty darn cool.  I liked it even more when I accidently tore the old olive paper while in the process of distressing it.  I decided to continue with that piece by just haphazardly pasting it back together, because what says distressed better than torn and tattered??? Doesn’t that wrinkled and inked background look fabulous?

This photo doesn’t show it very well, but the red part of the flower is heavily covered with Crystal Effects.  This glassy dimensional element is what takes this card from good to great!  Before I forget to mention it…this card was inspired by a card made by Victoria Harrell.  She posted a similar card on the demonstrator only site, and this is my take on her card, with several alterations.

Supplies:

Paper:

  • Basic Black
  • Whisper White
  • Old Olive

Ink:

  • Kiwi Kiss
  • Old Olive
  • Basic Black

Markers:

  • Old Olive
  • Real Red
  • Cherry Cobbler

Stamps:

  • Bloomin’ Beautiful
  • En Francais

Accessories:

  • Scallop Border Punch
  • Black Velvet Ribbon (non-SU)
  • Crystal Effects

Well that’s my start to my Bloomin’ Beautiful Tribute. More to come shortly…
